     Woking

       The Parish of Woking dates back before
         Domesday  and this historic area has               
         evidence  of prehistory, a Tudor Palace               
         and  the  Basingstoke canal  which was 
         constructed  in  the  late 1700s.
         Woking Town as  we  know it  developed          
         with the  arrival of the railway in 1838.       
         These  libraries  include  images  taken in 
         the 1970s when the town underwent a       
         major  redevelopment.
